Special schedule for M32 Gold Cup

Published on March 2nd, 2014

Miami, FL (March 2, 2014) – The third day of the M32 Gold Cup in Miami was a bit special. Everywhere M32 Cup goes, they’re trying to do something special together with the local community. It can be a charity or just get young sailors out sailing to inspire them to stay in the sport. To sail with Olympic Champions and up-and-coming young sailors on fast catamarans, help kids to see a natural path from dinghy sailing to America’s Cup.

As a new class on Biscayne Bay, it was important to work with local initiatives. So when Bacardi Miami Sailing Week invited the M32 Class to their pro-am regatta, it was a perfect opportunity to help out. Twenty guest racers bid for, and got, spots on board during racing, and the money went to three different organizations:

– Shake-A-Leg Miami, http://www.shakealegmiami.org
– Team Paradise, http://www.teamparadise.org
– Sailing Heals, http://sailingheals.org

And the racing? Tighter than ever. Dominating Wallén Racing sailed more conservative with places 3-1-2-2-2-3 but still maintained their lead over second placed Mattias Rahm.

Fredrik Lööf with tactician Daniel Wallberg struggled again, but finished the day with two wins. Being third overall isn’t what they came here for, so we might see some changes to get back on track.

It’s now obvious that the US boats are up to speed. Gradient V started the day with a close second place after leading the fleet around the course. And a win for Peter Dentons Ultimate Pressure (helmed today by Luke Lawrence) in the fourth race.

Monday will be the last day of the M32 Gold Cup. Racing starts att 11:00 and prize giving is planned for 16:00 at Miami Rowing Club.
