Fatal accident during Beer Can Race

Redwood City, CA (April 16, 2014) – One person was killed and one injured Wednesday evening when a 42-foot Catalina taking part in an evening race collided with a channel marker buoy. A dismasting followed, and the fatality appears due a head injury. Five people in total were on the damaged yacht. The other three who remained on board were uninjured and were eventually able to free the boat from the buoy. The incident occurred during a Beer Can Race hosted by Sequoia Yacht Club. – Full story
