Strong winds again at EDHEC Sailing Cup

Les Sables d’Olonne, France (May 1, 2014) – Once again, the wind was present, up to 20 knots at the end of the afternoon, for day four of the EDHEC Sailing Cup – the biggest intercollegiate offshore regatta in the world. The Grand Surprise did two tactical races and one coastal race while the J/80 completed three tactical races.

In the Grand Surprise fleet, HEC Lausanne take the third place between Altran Centrale Paris (1st) and KPMG Essec (2nd). Tufts University takes the 7th place of the Grand Surprise ranking and HEC Montréal take the ninth place. Then follow Ecole Polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (15th), Hogere Zeevaartschool Antwerpen (20th), Universität Bundes+621wehr Munchen (21st), Haugesund Student Sailing Team”(22nd),Drexel Sailing Team (29th) ,ESADE Sailing Team (31st)

In the J/80 fleet, Georgetown slips to the 5th place, Su-Sails (Sabbanci) is ranked 17th,Tufts University 18th, Rzeszow University Of Technology 28th, Oxford University #2, Ife Sailing 31, Fsa Université Laval 32th, University of Chicago is 33rd, Oxford University #1 37th. “The competition was really stiff and exhausting today. I never sailed so fast in a J/80,” said John LaBossiere, helm of Georgetown university sailing team.

Friday is the last races before the Final Races. Will be selected:
– For the Gant Final (Overall Ranking): 17 boats for a final in Grand Surprise
– For the 100% student Ranking: 10 crew for a final on Longtze

BACKGROUND: The EDHEC Sailing Cup is the biggest intercollegiate offshore regatta in the world. Every year, 180 boats are competing during one week. This event is 100% student organized by student of the EDHEC Business School. This year, the 46th edition is held from April 25 to May 3 in the Harbor of the Vendee Globe in France.
