Youth Powerboat Camp

Published on May 12th, 2014

For parents with school age children, the approach of summer can mean a kaleidoscope of camps. Here’s a new one to cross our radar… Youth Powerboat Summer Camp. The program operates out of Newport, RI to provide kids with power boat instruction on Narragansett Bay.

“Our goal is to get kids out on the Bay enjoying powerboats safely while learning new skills,” explains Captain Kent Dresser, President/Founder of Confident Captain/ Ocean Pros. “We are fortunate to be offering the robust US Powerboating curriculum to support this great program and help provide kids with their state boating certification.”

The program is providing hands-on boating instruction aboard 18-21 foot runabouts with education time ashore. The curriculum includes seamanship, safety, weather, navigation, knots, docking, and rules of the road. Plus the kids take a state boating license test at the completion of each course.

Power boat instruction to youth in a fun summer camp format? Apparently so. Details here.
