Eight Bells: Peter Tylee

Published on May 13th, 2014

Pete (Petey) Tylee, age 55, died at home in Cleveland, OH on Thursday, May 8th. He was an avid sailor and racer from a very young age. Over the past 35+ years serving as bowman on many winning Lake Erie boats including Hawkeye, Jack of Hearts, First Tracks and Flat Stanley to name a few. Pete was also a very skilled navigator and electronics expert.

Generous of heart, Pete was quick to volunteer and help anyone who needed a hand. A skilled tradesman and talented woodworker, his advice and assistance were sought by many.

In recent years if Pete was not sailing he could be found volunteering on race committees at regattas along the Lake Erie circuit. A colorful personality, and infectious smile, Pete always left regattas having made many new friends.

Born February 3, 1959 in Buffalo, New York, Pete leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Mary Cay, mother Jeannene, and sisters Pamela Zentmyer (Paul) and Patricia Tylee, and a multitude of friends.

A memorial service celebration of Pete’s life will be planned at Edgewater Yacht Club, Saturday, June 7th from 1:00-4:00pm. Interment will be private. – Terry McSweeney
