Travis Odenbach takes early advantage at J/22 North American Championship

Published on May 16th, 2014

Annapolis, MD (May 16, 2014) – The J/22 North American Championship, hosted by the Annapolis Yacht Club in Annapolis, Maryland, got underway Friday, but Mother Nature did not cooperate, allowing only one race.

Thirty-eight teams from across the United States and Canada were postponed on shore in the morning, as storms and heavy rain passed through the area. When the first race began at 1:30 p.m. local time, winds had dropped to 6-8 knots, under brightening skies and temperatures around 70 degrees. Travis Odenbach’s Honey Badger secured the victory, with Annapolis NOOD winner Michael Marshall’s Bad News Too in second and local Jenny Gaffney’s Pirate Princess Racing Team in third. Decreasing breeze did not permit another race.

The Championship continues through Sunday.
