Problems with 2020 Olympic sailing venue

Published on August 6th, 2014

While the talk about the 2016 Olympic sailing venue has been focused on pollution problems, there are now concerns about the proposed sailing venue for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The sailing competition is due to take place at the Wakasu Olympic Marina, which is in the approach zone for one of Haneda Airport’s runways. Aside from noise disruption, the helicopters needing to fly above the venue to film the races will be disrupting flights at the country’s busiest airport.

The International Sailing Federation said it understands there are “several options” for the sailing competition at Tokyo 2020.

Secretary General Jerome Pels told insidethegames, “We haven’t had any formal proposals of changes but we know that they are looking at their plans. Tokyo is not really sure what they want to do.”

Comforting…
