Threatening storms continue to haunt US Youth Champs

Published on August 12th, 2014

Grosse Pointe Shores, MI (August 12, 2014) – After storms on Monday kept the fleet ashore for the start of the 2014 U.S. Youth Championships, the Race Committee did all they could today to get racing underway in each of the five classes.

Threatening thunderstorms this morning forced a brief postponement, until an opening appeared in the forecast later in the morning. The 156 sailors quickly launched their boats, which allowed the 29ers to complete four races, while the Club 420, International 420, Laser and Laser Radial fleets finished only one race before the weather window closed at approximately 2:00 pm. With the forecast outlook predicting thunderstorms, the sailors were called in to shore for the day.

The 2014 U.S. Youth Championships resumes on Wednesday with optimism for the best sailing weather of the week. Racing concludes Thursday, August 14.
