Road to Melges 32 Worlds begins Friday

Newport, RI (August 14, 2014) – A thin but heated fleet of nine Melges 32 teams will compete for the ninth running of the class U.S. National Championship over three days on August 15-17 with PRO Anderson Reggio at the helm.
Among the field is reigning World and defending U.S. National Champion Jason Carroll and his Argo team, which is sporting a fresh and youthful semi-new crew list, with Anthony Kotoun handling the tactical duties. Making the trip across the Atlantic is Richard Goransson’s Inga From Sweden with Morgan Larson as tactician.
Former U.S. National Champion Ryan DeVos on Volpe, along with his cousin Dalton DeVos on Delta, have recruited top talent for the event. America’s Cup Champion Skipper James Spithill will be making his class debut, calling tactics alongside Ryan. Dalton remains the youngest helm in the fleet and well supported by Olympic champion Jonathan McKee as tactician.
For many of the teams, the Nationals is the beginning of their focused training toward the World Championship in Miami, FL on December 3-7. Additional lead up events will be the Coconut Grove Sailing Club Cup in October (17-19) and the Gold Cup Regatta in November (7-9), all in Miami.
