Eight Bells: Richard Schneider

It is with great sadness to report that Richard Schneider of North Ridgeville, OH has passed away November 26, 2014 at the age of 79 years. He had been recently diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

Dick was a constant Race Committee contributor for Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland, OH. In his regular station on the EYC mark set boat, Racer Chaser, he eagerly supported all racers and enjoyed the camaraderie of the sailing community. It was in this role when he was involved in a rescue that earned him US SAILING’s Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medal in 2001.

A gentleman and a friend to many, he never had a negative thing to say about anybody. At the 2014 EYC Sailor Award ceremony, he was honored with the EYC Staff Member of the Year.

Friends may call December 4, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Prayer will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to a Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Rd., Avon, OH 44011.
