VIDEO: New Zealand WetaFest 2014

Published on December 10th, 2014

Kiwi Weta owners gathered at the Tauranga Yacht and Powerboat Club for an action packed weekend known as WetaFest. Here’s a report from Roger Kitchen…

Beginning with a coaching session on Friday, the wind was blowing out the cobwebs with a 25 knot westerly.

The Saturday schedule began with teams dashing around the harbour and the Matakana beaches looking for markers. The tides needed to be considered so local lad Phil was a clear winner. There were a few clear fails with crews not able to hang on to their pencils and relied on remembering ten two digit codes. Good luck with that!

Later on Saturday, there were some practice races held in another westerly howler. Although the numbers were a little depleted as some crews got into an early afternoon tea or headed for the Rolling Stones concert, we had a blast on the course. Carnage galore!

We had six races on Sunday which were held in perfect winds… not too little, not too much. The perfect end to a fun weekend.
