Foster City, CA (May 11, 2015) – The 2015 International One Metre Class World Championship is ongoing at Central Lake, Foster City, CA., May 8-16, 2015. This is the first time that the Worlds in any model boat class have ever been in the US. Model boat racing is big in Europe, and is finally really catching on after 40 years in US. Seventy-six sailors from 21 countries are competing over seven days of sailing competition.

The racing consists of a series of heats with an intricate ranking system. The boats are ranked according to their finishing positions, if any, in the previous IOM World Championships. Boats without a finishing position in the previous IOM World Championships shall be ranked according to their finishing positions, if any, in the previous corresponding IOM Continental Championships, after boats already ranked. Remaining boats shall be ranked after boats already ranked according to the alphabetical order of the competitor’s surname. From this list of ranked boats, boats will be sorted into heats in the order A, B, C, D, E, E, D, C, B, A and so on.
