Published on June 30th, 2015

The 2015 ISAF Team Racing World Championship will be held at Rutland Sailing Club, Rutland Water, UK on July 19-24. This ISAF (International Sailing Federation) Grade 1 event is in the same category as the Olympics and is the pinnacle of international, dinghy team racing.

This year, the competition will comprise Open and Under 19 divisions with the top three teams in each section being awarded ISAF championship medals. Teams will represent their MNAs (Member National Authorities) or, for the first time, comprise competitors from joint MNAs.

Encouragement is being given to ‘start up’ nations, who have not previously competed in the Championships. Coaching is being offered at Rutland Water prior to the competition.

Each team comprises of three boats with two crew per boat – with at least one male and one female competitor per team.

There are currently 24 teams expected at the Championship from Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Japan and USA.

The competition will be sailed in 12 foot (3.7m) Firefly dinghies. Rondar Raceboats are generously providing two flights of boats for the event with Oakham and Uppingham Schools and Rutland Sailing Club kindly loaning their fleets.

Live video coverage of the racing will be available on YouTube along with GPS tracking provided by Sail Racer.

A ‘Virtual 2015 ISAF Team Racing Championship’, hosted by SailX, will also be run in conjunction with the ‘real’ event.
