Mother Nature tough opponent at US Youth Champs

Published on July 8th, 2015

Bristol, RI (July 8, 2015) – The second day of the 2015 U.S. Youth Sailing Championships was confounded by scattered storms that challenged both racers and race committees. Only a single race was completed for the Laser, Laser Radial, and I420 events, while the F16 and 29er fleets completed three races.

Current leaders are Richie Gordon (Laser, 5 races), Henry Marshall (Laser Radial, 4 races), Mark Brunsvold / Anderson Brunsvold (F16, 7 races), Neil Marcellini / Robbie Englehart (29er, 7 races), and Will Logue / Bram Brakman (I420, 5 races).

Races are held July 7-10 on Narragansett Bay and Mount Hope Bay. Laser, Laser Radial and I-420 will sail up to 12 races. The Formula 16 and 29er will sail up to 15 races.

Many of this week’s winners will qualify for the US Sailing Team Sperry Youth World Team and compete at the 2015 ISAF Youth World Championships in Langkawi, Malaysia from December 27 to January 3.

The 2015 edition of the U.S. Youth Sailing Championships will be hosted by Roger Williams University at the newly constructed Richard L. Bready Mount Hope Bay Sailing and Education Center, and supported by the Bristol Yacht Club.
