Eight Bells: Elizabeth “Candy” Isdale

2015-07-09_10-51-09Elizabeth Candler Isdale (Candy), 70, of Narragansett, died peacefully at her home July 3, surrounded by her family (April 23, 1945 – July 3, 2015). Losing her heroic battle with cancer, she was the beloved wife of George M. Isdale, Jr. (Dooie).

Born in Evanston, IL, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. Hovey and Anita C. Hovey (Hinckley). Candy attended The Chestnut Hill School, The Winsor School and graduated from Beaver Country Day School in 1963 where she was the proud founder and president of the Daffodil Club, 1963. She graduated from Mount Vernon College 1965.

Candy and Dooie were married in Chestnut Hill, MA and moved to Rye, NY in 1968 where they raised their children. She was an accomplished businesswoman as a travel agent and independent charter broker for more than 35 years. With the help of close friends she purchased UNameIt Travel and partnered with another friend in Custom Charter Yachts, Ltd.

She was a past president of the American Yacht Charter Association 2003-2007. Candy enjoyed organizing and managing large group trips that she and Dooie led around the world. She took pride in knowing her customers and creating the ultimate experience for them when they traveled. She was passionate about sailing, golf and spending time with family and friends.

Candy is survived by her husband Dooie, two children, Elizabeth C. Isdale, Greig M. Isdale and his wife Debora G. Isdale; three grandsons, Douglas, George and Grant; and brother Charles F. Hovey Jr. Her brother Benjamin C. Hovey predeceased her.

Services will be held at St. Peter’s by the Sea in Narragansett, RI at 11:30am on Friday, July 17, 2015 with a reception following at the family home in Narragansett. There will be a private family burial that will take place at a later date.
