Williford and Waddell win 29er North Americans

Twenty-four teams competed in the 2015 29er North American Championship, hosted by Columbia Gorge Racing Association on July 17-19 at Cascade Locks , OR. After finishing six races on Friday, the fleet sat ashore on Saturday as the reliable Gorge winds pulled a no-show.

From the racing concluded on Friday, the top 5 teams and their points (after the first discard) were:

Max Brill/Andrew Person – 13
Eric Lyall/Andrew Moreno – 13
Romain Screve/Quinn Wilson – 14
Christopher Williford/Wade Waddell – 16
Nicolas Muller/Ian MacDiarmid – 20

Early Sunday morning, the scene was bleak – no wind anywhere. But by the 10am First Warning, there was race-able wind and it was soon was back to something resembling “Gorge” conditions – approximately 15 knots.

As the day progressed, the teams of Nicolas Muller/Ian MacDiarmid and Christopher Williford/Wade Waddell stepped up their game while the other three teams slid down the ranks.

The race committee was able to complete 6 races, bringing the race count to the full 12 races scheduled and allowing for the second discard.

Nicolas Muller/Ian MacDiarmid won the day but Christopher Williford/Wade Waddell won the last race to take the title by two points.
