Australians lead Junior Match Racing Championship

Corona del Mar, CA (July 23, 2015) – The top eight teams at the 49th Annual Governor’s Cup International Junior Match Racing Championship today began the Quarter-Final round robin stage. Completing five of the seven races, skipper Lachy Gilmour and his Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club team from Australia were perfect today to top the standings. The eight teams carry their scores from the opening round robin, with the top four teams then to advance to the Semi-Final Knock-Out stage. Racing concludes July 25.
Background: Six international teams from Australia, England, New Caledonia, and New Zealand are facing six USA teams from California and Illinois, squaring off in the purpose built Governor’s Cup 21’s, designed by BYC Staff Commodore Alan Andrews of Andrews Yachts.
