World Sailing announces Paralympic Olympic Race Officials

World Sailing is pleased to announce the names of the Race Officials who will be officiating at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Australian David Staley leads the group as Technical Delegate with Wilfried Klein (GER) the Assistant Technical Delegate. Both will be present throughout the Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition to ensure fairness of racing. Both Staley and Klein have been on the Para World Sailing Committee for many years and Klein was also Assistant Technical Delegate at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The race management team will be headed by Thomas Duggan (USA), who will also be the Principal Race Officer at the 2016 Sailing World Cup Weymouth and Portland just prior to the Games. John Doerr (GBR) will chair the International Jury. Doerr has previously been International Jury Chair at the 2015 Sailing World Cup Miami and will also lead the Jury at the upcoming Finn Gold Cup in Gaeta, Italy. Chief Equipment Inspector at the 2015 Para World Sailing Championships, USA’s John Koopmans will again assume the role at the Paralympics. Susan Parry (GBR) is Chief Classifier.

All appointments come with vast experience throughout multiple fleet race regattas and were confirmed by the Para World Sailing Committee. The final team will work in conjunction with Rio 2016 organisers and Brazilian technical officials and volunteers in preparation for the event in September.

Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition
The Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition will take place at the Marina da Glória, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will feature the 2.4mR, Sonar and SKUD18. The fleet racing competition format is scheduled to take place between 7-18 September 2016.
