Two US teams compete in 2016 Youth Match Racing World Champs

(June 13, 2016) -Two teams, with skippers Christophe Killian of Newport Beach, California, and Charlie Lalumiere of Falmouth, Maine, will be representing the U.S. in the 2016 World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championship in Noumea, New Caledonia, June 14-18, 2016. Killian and Lalumiere finished first and second respectively at the 2015 Intercollegiate Match Racing Championship. Sailing with Killian are Jack Martin and Harrison Vandervort; and with Lalumiere are Chas MacBain and Howie Meyers.
Each team consists of 3-4 members across a wide range of skill levels and experience led by skippers holding a wide range of World Sailing rankings from Robin Follin’s 28th, at the top of the range, to Matthew Hughe’s 548th. All competitors must be under 23 years of age until the 31st of December 2016.
All participants at the Youth Match Racing World Championship are in a bid to become world champion and climb the World Sailing Rankings.
Throughout the week the Race Committee will run a series of qualifying rounds, by way of a round robin, giving everyone a fair chance at competing with each other. Teams will rotate through eight identical Eliott 6 sailboats.
Ten teams will be competing in Elliott 6m’s, including teams from Denmark, New Zealand, France, Australia and Japan.
