POLL: Watching the America’s Cup

The 35th America’s Cup will be held this May and June, with significant changes to the event to increase viewership. This poll sought to learn if people thought this effort would succeed.

Since only a very small percentage of total viewers would travel to Bermuda, we wanted to consider only the broadcast, and we assumed the broadcast would be available in each respondent’s area. Hopefully it would be.

When the America’s Cup made the shift from monohulls to multihulls, it was to create an event that would attract a larger viewing audience. Faster boats, stadium venue, improved broadcast, and shorter races were all to achieve this goal. Has it?

With regard to viewership numbers, we asked three questions from January 15 to 17. When considering these questions, we advised respondents to answer not only for themselves but for as large a group as they felt they could, and that their answers may be different than their personal opinion.
