InterClub Mid-Winter Championships 2017

Published on January 29th, 2017

Classic frostbiting conditions prevailed for the InterClub Mid-Winter Championships, held January 28-29 in Larchmont, NY. With 40 degree temperatures and winds ranging from 5 to 20 knots with 50 degree shifts, 19 teams comprised of 38 sailors (in the college style A and B format) sailed 22 races.

With giant handfuls of All Americans, National Champions, current college sailors and expert IC Sailors from the east coast, the team of Ben Cesare (BU), Anne Patin (Brown), David Dowd (Wharton), and Theresa Salerno (Georgetown) took the title.

When asked the secret to the team’s success, Team Captain David Dowd said “the beat down really commenced when after Ben and Anne’s okay performance in the first set, we went out and went 1,2,1.”

When asked if that comment was a bit arrogant, Dowd said, “what ev….without Theresa, who had never even sailed an IC before, we couldn’t have done it, she was fantastic.”

Larchmont Yacht Club, led by Event Chair Ward Young and PRO Nick Landone’s impeccable race management team, hosted the racing.

SSA IC Sailor Jesse Falsone announced that next year’s event would return to Annapolis at SSA. He promised to “blow out the budget!” with an over the top event.
