Coast Guard search for missing man

Published on May 2nd, 2017

The US Coast Guard is searching for a Florida man whose sailboat washed ashore near Hatteras, NC on May 1, 2017.

Richard Tomlinson, 82, of Clearwater, FL was reportedly sailing from Clearwater to Maine.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City and the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Rollin Fritch are currently searching for Tomlinson.

His friend Steve Hodges described Tomlinson as an avid sailor who didn’t let his age slow him down.

“He’s just so independent, so self sufficient, that he thrived on that,” Hodges said. “I can’t imagine him not being able to handle a situation in a sailboat.”

If you have any information related to the search, please call the Coast Guard Command Center at (757) 398-6390.
