Invites Sent for 2018 Race to Mackinac

Chicago, IL (February 2, 2018) – The Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac Committee announced that 477 invitations were sent out February 1st to returning Mac skippers.

The 2018 Race to Mackinac is an invitational race with a Cruising Division start on Friday, July 20th, and Racing Division start on Saturday, July 21st. Teams interested in racing for the first time are encouraged to consult the Notice of Race for information and instructions on how to request an invitation.

“Many updates on the technical and support side of the race should help registration be a fun experience,” said Sarah Renz, Race Chair of the 2018 Mac Race. “The Race has always adapted with time, and we’re proud to have Commodore Sigmond and Chicago Yacht Club’s support in hosting the 110th Mac Race in July.”

Additional support is open and available for teams entering their first Mac and is accessible through the Regatta Manager. Mac Committee members will pair up with new Mac Racers to help answer questions on boat inspections, safety education opportunities, Chicago and Island logistics, and race-specific questions.

With demand for this year’s race expected to be high, and space in the harbors limited, skippers are encouraged to submit a request for invitation promptly. Harbor requests will be considered with when full payment is complete.

Generally, skippers who have competed in one of the last four CYC Mac races should receive an invitation to compete in the 2018 Mac Race.
