Zeke Horowitz wins Viper 640 Sarasota Winter Series

Published on February 11th, 2018

The Viper 640 Sarasota Winter Series enjoyed stellar conditions for the third and final event on February 10-11 in Sarasota, FL. With four races on Saturday in a warm and sunny 10-15kt southerly, then four more on Sunday in a warm, sunny and sporty 15-22kt, the 24 teams competing were treated to some of the best winter sailing available.

The battle for the top of the podium for the third series event was a hard fought one between Zeke Horowitz’s team on Moxie and Brad Boston and Lee Shucker’s Jackpot crew. The Moxie crew took the event win by one critical point over Team Jackpot with the local Sarasota team on Travis Yates and Mike Meighan’s Sidewinder taking the final spot on the podium for the event.

Zeke sailed with his normal crew of Brendan Healey and Ian Coleman with Jake Doyle stepping in for Ian this past weekend.

Twenty-nine teams participated in 2017-2018 Sarasota Viper Winter Series, with Horowitz and Boston ending the overall results tied on point. Horowitz won the tie breaker to take home the series trophy for the third year running.

Filling out the top five was Team Great Scott (Jay Rhame/Peter Beardsley) in third overall, Team Sidewinder (Travis Yates/Mike Meighan) and Team Merica (Kleinschrodt Family).
