Scholarships for young sailors to learn navigation skills

Published on February 13th, 2018

Applications are being accepted from sailors under 25 years of age for a limited number of scholarships to the new tactical and navigation seminar – Long Island Sound – Expedition 201 – at SUNY Maritime on April 7, 2018.

“Some of our country’s most talented sailors are in, or have just come, through the college sailing scene,” noted the seminar’s host, 2-time America’s Cup winner, Peter Isler. “They possess strong tactical skills and are fluent in working with all kinds of technology. With these scholarships we want to help these young sailors augment their toolbox by learning about Expedition software so they can break into the bigger boat world – in the afterguard!”

The course will be full day classroom session and include presentations by legendary Long Island Sound sailor Butch Ulmer, Olympic medalist and Rolex winner Steve Benjamin, and weather guru Chris Bedford.

To apply for the scholarship ($230 tuition break), you must be under the age of 25. Send your sailing resume and a single paragraph on why you should be selected to francine.wainer@northu.com. The deadline for applications is March 2. More information on the seminar… click here.
