Spain wins Snipe World Masters

Published on June 30th, 2018

Damian Borras Camps and Jordi Triay Pons dominated the 2018 Snipe World Master Championship held June 26-30 in Vilamoura, Portugal. The Spaniards won five of the seven races to top the field of 77 teams from 15 nations, with the silver medal going to Fernando Rita and Juan Magro (ESP) and bronze to Manu Hens and Maj Kristin Hansen Borgen (BEL).

“We are very happy of this whole week,” exclaimed Borras. “And winning with Jordy is even better; he’s like a son to me. I was his coach in the Laser class, and we’ve been waiting to sail at the Snipe Worlds together for six years, since 2012, when I lost to Augie Diaz for one point.”

While the wind direction remained steady during the regatta, winds were more on the strong side at the beginning and then went lighter by the end.

Winning teams in the four divisions:
• Apprentice Master Division (45-54 years): Manu Hens/Maj Kristen Hansen Borgen (BEL)
• Master Division (55-64 years): Damian Borras/Jordi Triay (ESP)
• Grand Master Division (65-74 years): Jorn Haga/Maria Fiestas Le-Njoc (NOR)
• Master Legends Division (75 years old and onwards): Paolo Santos/Thiago Sangineto (BRA)

The Id Crook Memorial Trophy was presented to Damian Borras/Jordi Triay (ESP) as the top placing team for the Overall Master World Champion.
