Annual Newport Regatta 2018

Sailors from 21 U.S. States and from U.S.V.I., Antigua and Barbuda, Bermuda, the Grenadines Canada, Chile, Italy and the U.K. competed in the 34th Annual Newport Regatta, held July 7-8 in Newport, RI. The event started in 1984 as a Shields-only event and has grown to be a “must-do” on the East Coast.

Twelve classes of one-designs raced on five course circles of racing over Narragansett Bay included Etchells, J/70, C&C 30, Melges 20, F-18, VX One, 505, S Class, 29er, RS Aero, 2.4mR and Marstrom 32.

Top decorated sailor was Peter Shope (Middletown, RI), a Laser sailor who posted seven bullets in 12 races and won the class and the Dr. Robin Wallace Performance Award.
