Cannon fire from Valletta’s Saluting Battery announced the start of the 606-nm offshore race from Malta’s Grand Harbour, taking in the Strait of Messina, Stromboli’s active volcano and the islands of Favignana, Pantelleria and Lampedusa.

Organized by the Royal Malta Yacht Club with the support of Rolex, the Rolex Middle Sea Race marked a festive finale to the Mediterranean yachting season.
