Club 420 Midwinter Championship 2019

Published on February 18th, 2019

The 2019 Club 420 Midwinter Championship attracted 103 teams on February 16-18 in Jensen Beach, FL.

The regatta format was two days of a qualifying round, where the fleet was divided into two groups and seeded by formula. The final day was a medal round where the top 52 boats were in gold to sail for the championship and the next 51 boats sailed in silver.

Breeze on day one was shifty and puffy throughout the racing, while the second day of the qualifying round started light but built for final two races. The forecast for the medal races began light, but the filling sea breeze made for an exciting end to the event.

The regatta was close all the way through with Boyd Bragg and Ryan Wahba showing off their discipline and consistency on the race course, finishing six points ahead of Colleen and Michaela O’Brien who won three of the 11 races. In third was Jordan Bruce and Andrea Riefkohl who started fast with a 2-1-1 but afterwards couldn’t match that pace.
