Sock Burning and Oyster Roast

Published on February 20th, 2019

With the exception of South Florida and most of Mexico, the balance of North American can present a compelling case for closing the cold season. Enough is enough, right? It is time for the backside of winter to become the frontside of spring.

As Groundhog Day studies have found no consistent correlation between a rodent seeing its shadow the arrival time of warmer weather, the mid-Atlantic region of the USA prefers the power of celebration to effect change. Bring on the inspirational quote… “if you dream it, you can be it.”

As they see it, the end of winter deserves a party invoking hope and symbolism, leading the folks at Ullman Sails Virginia to host their fourth annual sock burning and oyster roast. Everyone is tired of wearing socks and has a couple of pairs worthy of the fire, and the mixing of burning socks with eating oysters, drinking cold beverages, and catching up with sailing buddies is a good way to get the mind focused on the next shift.
