Consistency struggles at Sunfish Worlds

Published on September 17th, 2019

Bonaire (September 17, 2019) – The second day at the 2019 Sunfish World Championship finds David Hernandez (GUA) atop the leaderboard after seven races. Three races were completed today, and now with seven races completed, a discard has come to the aid of the 65-boat fleet which has struggled with consistency.

Hernández, who was out of the top ten yesterday due to black flag penalty in one of his races, was later reinstated, taking over the lead with a 1-2-1-3. While his scores today of 12-29-2 were a stumble, his struggles were not unique and retains a 12 point lead.

The day started with an abandoned race due to a 90+ degree wind shift. Although the following races were run without a hitch, many wind shifts in light-to-medium air continued to challenge both the Race Committee and the competitors.

Tomorrow’s winds are expected to be more of the same, with a maximum of twelve races to be held from September 16 to 20, with a reserve day on September 19.
