Youth Sports and Modern Parenting

Published on November 25th, 2019

As the USA prepares for its Thanksgiving holiday on November 28, FlipGive— the team funding app that helps youth sports groups across North America— asked 1,000 U.S. sports parents what they are most thankful for this holiday season.

The top 10 states where parents are the most thankful for a brief break from their child’s stressful sports season schedules are:

1. Arkansas – 89%
2. South Carolina – 87%
3. California – 77%
4. Colorado – 75%
5. North Carolina – 74%
6. Alabama – 73%
7. New York – 71%
8. Minnesota – 69%
9. Pennsylvania – 68%
10. Florida – 64%

Here are some of their other responses:

• 92% of American parents said they’re thankful for the bonds they have made with other parents and families through their kids’ sports involvement.

• 78% of U.S. sports parents say they are more thankful for their washing machine (for those funky uniforms) than they are for carpools (22%).

• Cell phones lead the way for technological devices sports parents are most thankful for (58%) followed by cars (26%), heating and air conditioning (9%), and clocks and watches (7%).

• 82% of sports parents are thankful for gaining a little bit more time for themselves when their kids are at practices and games.

Editor’s note: We hope these parents survive this week without youth sports.
