This Race Week sounds like a Fun Week

Published on January 14th, 2020

St. Augustine is a city on the northeast coast of Florida, about 40 miles south of Jacksonville, and lays claim to being the oldest city in the U.S. But beyond its Spanish colonial architecture and outstretched beaches is a race week that sounds like a fun week.

The locals were having so much fun that 2020 St. Augustine Race Week has expanded its schedule to now be an eight-day regional sailing regatta featuring three days of offshore races, two days of inshore races, and a two-day youth regatta.

To be held March 14-21, the variety of handicap classes will used PHRF while the youth regatta and demonstration Dragon Boat races will be held in full view of spectators along the downtown St. Augustine Bayfront.

Racers, spectators, and the general public are invited to two nights of downtown after-race parties featuring live music, food and adult beverages, and awards presentations. Even if you are not much of a racer you can still party like a sailor!

The event purposely includes the public, as proceeds support youth sailing scholarships which in 2019 enabled them to send nearly 40 underprivileged kids to various summer sailing camps around the area free of charge. That’s their mission… to give less fortunate children a great summer experience and training the next generation of sailors.
