Cal Maritime claims Harbor Cup

Published on March 8th, 2020

California Maritime Academy topped nine other college teams to win the 2020 Los Angeles Harbor Cup Regatta, held March 6-8 in San Pedro, CA. Held in equalized Catalina 37s, this is the seventh time Cal Maritime has won since the event was launched in 2008.

However, Cal Maritime needed a rally to do it, as defending champions College of Charleston had a one point edge after eight races. With two races remaining, Charleston stumbled with a 7-7, opening the door for Cal Maritime which posted a 2-3 to take the victory.

“We had communications issues early on,” said Cal Maritime bowman Kyle Collins. “Once we got that in order the boat started working.”
