US Sailing cancels 2020 youth titles

Published on May 5th, 2020

The US Sailing Championship Committee Chairs made the decision to officially cancel US Sailing Championships for youth scheduled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

This decision includes the 2020 U.S. Youth Sailing Championships which was initially postponed from June 20-24 but now is officially cancelled. Due to this cancellation, the Athlete Selection System for the 2020 Youth Worlds is now under review. The 2020 Youth Sailing World Championships are to be held from December 12 to 19 in Salvador, Brazil.

This cancellation decision also includes the 2020 U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship, U.S. Junior Women’s Singlehanded and Doublehanded Championships, and the Chubb U.S. Junior Championships.

“The safety of sailors and the sailing community is paramount and after much internal discussion and collaboration with the host clubs, we decided it prudent for all parties to cancel these regattas in 2020,” said Jack Gierhart, CEO of US Sailing. “We look forward to these championships coming back online in 2021, and preparing the necessary measures to host these events safely in 2021 and beyond.”
