PHOTOS: Costumes are so 2020

Published on October 27th, 2020

Over 100 boats participated in Richmond Yacht Club’s 2020 Great Pumpkin Regatta on October 24 in Richmond, CA. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the typical windward-leeward courses were replaced by a Pursuit Race format that gave sailors a choice of rounding Alcatraz and Angel Islands in either direction.

As for costumes, you don’t need a Halloween-theme race to wear a mask in 2020.

“Pursuit races are such a dice roll requiring as much luck as skill and execution to do well,” said Will Paxton on winner Zackary Anderson’s J125, Velvet Hammer. “Maybe it’s the fact that everyone feels like they have a shot to win that makes it so fascinating.”
