Impact of US Sailing Reach Initiative

Published on May 12th, 2021

Launched in 2012, Reach is US Sailing’s STEM education initiative. Since its inception, Reach has connected with youth across the country who are learning Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) concepts using sailing as an educational platform. To measure the program, the US Sailing Reach Initiative has released its 2020 Impact Report.

The mission of US Sailing’s Reach is to engage youth and enhance career opportunities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics while fostering Environmental Stewardship through hands-on learning experiences.

The three Reach Hubs in the United States collaborate to share resources, training, and best practices to support the growth of their programs and provide mentoring to additional programs nationally who are interested in creating hands-on learning opportunities for all youth.

In 2020, the Southern California Hub concluded its three-year funding cycle. Additionally, several programs received grants to get started in implementing Reach at their organization.

US Sailing is accepting applications for Reach Grants through June 1, 2021. If interested in the Reach program and looking for support to get started, apply for a Reach Grant, with grantees to continue the work of the hub model with virtual mentor sessions and professional development.
