Eight Bells: Larry Krause

Published on June 3rd, 2021

Larry G. Krause, 73, passed away May 28, 2021.

His childhood summers were spent on Okauchee Lake, where he first crewed on a sailboat at age 9. That sparked a lifelong passion for scow sailing, first as a competitor and later as a respected race officer at regattas throughout the Inland Lakes Yachting Association.

Larry was a member of the Pewaukee Yacht Club for 50 years and served three terms on the PYC board. “He was a straight shooter – honest, fair and dedicated,” said Candace Porter. “This was a man the ILYA will miss immensely and me even more.”

Larry was known for his unique sense of humor and unfailing optimism, his love for his family and friends, his joy in being a father and grandfather, being a lifelong Wisconsin Badger fan extraordinaire and his soft spot for the six golden retrievers who had the good fortune to share his life.

“Ah, that laugh, that smile emanating from that broad face!” reflected Porter. “There was a deep, staccato “he – he – he” at the end of a funny story or a witty remark. Larry Krause was full of them.”

He will be greatly missed by the many friends he made, from grade school through college, his banking and sales career and within the sailing community.

Beloved husband of Marilyn (nee Maniaci); loving father of Kara (Michael) Kaiser, Kim (Patrick) Esser, and Kaitlin (Casey) Werner; cherished Bumpa of grandchildren Quinn, Kamron, and Kasha Kaiser and P.J. Esser; dear brother of Ginny (David) Stabelfeldt. Predeceased by his parents, Don and Marie Krause and his brother, Bob. Also survived by nieces, nephews, Marilyn’s family and other relatives.

The family will host a Celebration of Larry’s Life at 4:00-7:00 pm on June 4 at the Pewaukee Yacht Club in Pewaukee, WI.
