Tuning up for Snipe US National Championship

The 2021 Colonial Cup on June 5-6 provided a a warm-up opportunity for the Snipe Class which will be hosting its US National Championship on June 17-20 at the same venue in Annapolis, MD.

After a several year hiatus, former Snipe US National, North American, Western Hemisphere, and World Champion Raul Rios with crew Jose Arturo Diaz returned to the class, proving he hadn’t missed a beat by posting all top five scores to win by 12 points after(above) seven races.

Finishing second was former Snipe and Star World Champion and 2003 US Sailor of the Year Augie Diaz, with Snipe North American, Masters World, and Pan American Champion Ernesto Rodriguez/ Kathleen Tocke in third. Filling out the top 5 trophies were Arthur Blodgett/ Gracie Howe in 4th and Snipe newcomer Carter Cameron/ Bryan Stout in 5th.

Also scoring in the 27-boat fleet was Tyler Mowry/ Izzy Fadullon which took Top “U30” honors (both skipper & crew under 30) in 8th place and Carol Cronin/ Kim Couranz winning Top Women’s Team in 7th place. Seven races were completed in a difficult 8-12 knots shifty southerly with lots of chop and current.
