Modderman extends at Hobie 16 North Americans

Published on June 9th, 2021

Ocean Springs, MS (June 9, 2021) – The third day at the 2021 Hobie 16 North American Championships continued with some early storms that delayed the start of racing a bit. The wind began quite nicely at 15 knots but quickly got light, dropping to 8 knots for the second race of the day before finally settling at 12 knots from south.

Four additional races were completed with the strong ebb tide continuing to challenge sailors on the start line with a few more earning UFD’s, although overall the fleet is getting better at managing the current here. The lead positions continued to be tightly fought with some shuffling of positions in the top ten.

After five races Mark and Grace Modderman (USA) lead followed by John and Dylan Tomko (USA) and Ben Brown/Casey Astiz (USA) in third.

Forty-five teams are competing from June 7 to 11.
