Shrimping at Hobie 16 North Americans
Published on June 10th, 2021
Ocean Springs, MS (June 10, 2021) – The fourth day at the 2021 Hobie 16 North American Championships continued after a one hour morning postponement due to a large off-shore fishing tournament that was about to traverse our sailing area. After letting all the motor boats go by, racing got underway in 6 knots of breeze from the southwest with a strong adverse current.
Shrimp season just started here in Mississippi and there was a large shrimp boat anchored right in our sailing area complicating the sailors’ decisions. Three races were completed in building breeze that topped out at 12 knots. The course configuration today and location kept the fleet quite compacted all day with everyone managing a lot of boat traffic. Racing continues through tomorrow.
After three races John and Dylan Tomko (USA), lead followed by Mark and Grace Modderman (USA) and Ben Brown/Casey Astiz (USA) in third.
Forty-five teams are competing from June 7 to 11.
