50 years, 1 great party for ILCA

Published on June 23rd, 2021

Over 100 Laser sailors braved a windy and rainy morning to celebrate the ILCA Laser 50th anniversary parade sail on Sydney Harbour on June 20, 2021.

Originally scheduled for May 30, Double Bay Sailing Club postponed the event due to marine weather warnings issued for Sydney waters and the lockdown in Victoria which prevented a number of sailors from traveling.

However, last-minute travel restrictions still meant that many interstate participants could not attend but organizers still put on a great party with the harbour all to themselves.

“We had 217 registered sailors from Sydney, and other parts of Australia, but many were unable to attend due to last-minute travel restrictions in place for COVID-19,” said DBSC Commodore, Andrew Cox.

Brett Beyer, 13-times World Masters Champion, who was sailing a one-off gold-coloured boat, produced by Performance Sailcraft Australia, led the fleet down the harbour from the Sydney Opera House to Watsons Bay.
