Atlantic Cup is on for 2022

Published on August 5th, 2021

After the Atlantic Cup was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, the biennial event returns in 2022 on May 22 to Charleston, SC. For Class40 double-handed teams, the offshore race hosts over 1,000 nautical miles of offshore racing.

From Charleston, teams will travel 648 nautical miles north to New York. For the second leg, competitors will depart New York for a shorter sprint leg of 360 nm to Portland, Maine. The third and final stage of the race will be a little different in 2022, as rather than a crewed inshore series, there will be two coastal day races.

Previously, the third leg of The Atlantic Cup had required crews increase their numbers to 6 for an inshore series, so this change will allow teams to retain their pairing from the offshore leg
