Pocket Cruisers can set you free

The 2022 Miami International Boat Show on February 16-20 was one of the biggest yacht shows in the world as it hosted six venues from downtown Miami to the Miami Beach Convention Center. As we often observe, the lengths and prices of boats on offer seems to grow every year, which tends to limit the market for entry level and younger cruisers.

But it is worth noting, also, that the major production sailboat builders have a renewed interest in entry level sailboats, what we like to call “pocket cruisers” in the 25-to-35-foot range. In the past few years, they have introduced a number of boats that offer both good sailing performance and comfortable living accommodations.

These smaller cruisers have the capability of extended coastal cruising during a summer vacation or even living aboard for a couple or young family. They can in fact let cruisers on a budget adopt the cruising lifestyle and live their dreams instead of just dreaming away their lives.

The most recent issue of Blue Water Sailing (click here), has our annual review of the new crop of pocket cruisers. I hope you’ll scroll down and have a look since there are some very interesting designs this year. As Lin and Larry Pardey always have said, “Go small and go now.”
