Abdullah wins 2022 Thistle Nationals

Jacksonville, FL (May 20, 2022) – Paul Abdullah with crew Marie Abdullah and Barret Rhodes won the 2022 Thistle US National Championship, finishing with an eight point margin over Dave Dellenbaugh in the 7-race, no discard series.

Jacksonville served up another hot day and sunny with wind different than predicted. All the forecasts were unstable conditions before noon and then building during the afternoon. The race committee postponed an hour from 11am to noon to keep teams out of the heat and sun.

Those getting to the start area at 11am found the strongest wind of the day at 12-plus knots. It tapered from there, but remained strong and consistent enough for PRO Mark Foster and his team to get underway.

With only one race today, Abdullah held an 18 point advantage and needed most of it with their 21st place finish, but a ninth by Dellenbaugh and a 14th by third place finisher Daniel Hesse secured their title.

Racing was held May 16-20.
