Book your trip for 37th America’s Cup

Published on November 30th, 2022

Organizers for the 37th America’s Cup in 2024 have confirmed details for the competition in Barcelona, Spain. Among the decisions was the placement of the racing area for both the Challenger Selection Series and the America’s Cup Match which will be set to the south of City and located along the coastline for spectators.

While a permanent exclusion zone for the duration of the racing will be in place to ensure safety for both the competitors and spectator boats, land-based viewing could, depending on conditions, see action just a few hundred meters off the beach.

“This is a significant event to plan for, with safety concerns at the top of the list for both spectators and competitors,” noted Grant Dalton, CEO of America’s Cup Events Limited. “I think the result is going to be something pretty spectacular with racing taking place in front of the beach, along the coast from the main port entrance, past the Port Olímpic and out further east, offering a fantastic viewing opportunity for the public to see these remarkable boats at full pace.”

Racing in the America’s Cup Match itself, which will be a best of 13 (first to seven) format will commence in 2024 on October 12 with two races scheduled, followed by a further two races on October 13. Racing will then pause for two days, though depending on conditions, and at the discretion of the Regatta Director and along with both the Defender and the Challenger, both of these days could be used to complete two races a day.

The schedule as it stands, without the use of October 14-15, would recommence October 16 for one race (Race 5) in the Match.

October 17 is officially not scheduled for racing but again, subject to the Regatta Director’s discretion and agreement with the competitors, could be allocated for two further races depending on conditions whilst October 18 is officially marked as a ‘Spare Day’ for up to two more races. Two races per day are also scheduled for October 19 and 20, if required.

The objective of the Event Authority is to have racing concluded over the weekend of October 19-20, but the schedule does allow for racing to continue into the following week from October 21 through to October 27, on reserve days if required.

Also confirmed is the date for the Women’s America’s Cup Regatta Final which will be held immediately after Race 5 on October 16, 2024. Racing will take place in the new AC40 class set up in strict one-design mode. The scheduling for the Youth America’s Cup, also in AC40s, has the finale on the same day as the America’s Cup Challenger Final on October 2. For additional details on these two events, click here.

Following the publication of the AC37 Protocol and AC75 Class Rule on November 17, 2021, the AC75 Class Rule and AC Technical Regulations were finalized on March 17, 2022. The entry period opened December 1, 2021 and runs until July 31, 2022, but late entries for the 37th America’s Cup may be accepted until May 31, 2023. The Defender was to announce the Match Venue on September 17, 2021 but postponed the venue reveal, confirming it would be Barcelona on March 30, 2022. The 37th America’s Cup will be held October 2024.
