Sail Canada in partnership with David Cripton have launched a podcast series focusing on Canadian sailing called Whitecap, with Episode 8 featuring Scott Shawyer, Canada Ocean Racing’s founder and skipper.

Canada Ocean Racing is a new Canadian offshore team that will be competing in the IMOCA Globe Series, with the long-term goal to be on the start line for the Vendée Globe, a solo non-stop unassisted around the world race. Shawyer will be attempting to be the first Canadian to ever finish the Vendee, with his sights set on the 2028 race.

Shawyer’s campaign also seeks to lead and inspire the development of offshore sailing in Canada, promoting youth engagement along with gender equity and inclusion.

In this podcast, Shawyer talks about overcoming fear, the intricacies of auto helm, his partnership with Alex Thompson, and the qualification for the Vendée Globe as well as prepping for it.
