Sail Canada in partnership with David Cripton have launched a podcast series focusing on Canadian sailing called Whitecap, with Episode 12 featuring Olympic Medalists John Millen and Frank McLaughlin, who won bronze in the Flying Dutchman class at the 1988 Olympic Games in Pusan, South Korea.

McLaughlin is a 3-time Olympian including racing the 470 in 1984 with Martin TenHove, and Millen is a 2-time Olympian in the FD with McLaughlin. They were 1981 World Champions in the International 14 class, and Pan Am Games medalists in the FD, as well as being on the podium at both the worlds and Europeans.

Millen was also a member of the crew on the two Canadian challenges for the Americas Cup. Finally, they were recently inducted into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame. The discussion included the importance of family in sailing, as well as many the behind the scenes tales from Canada’s two America’s Cup campaigns and the incredible story of their final race in Korea 1988 which they had to win in order to get a medal.
