ILCAs dominate US Open Long Beach

Published on July 16th, 2023

The 2023 US Open Sailing Series Long Beach attracted 164 boats and boards in 10 classes, with racing held July 14-16 in Long Beach, CA. The event was held in conjunction with the ILCA North American Championship, with Robby Meek topping 37 competitors in the ILCA 7, Lillian winning the 65-boat ILCA 6 fleet, with Jason Folvig dominating 21 ILCA 4s.

Throughout the event, sailors and race officials battled fog and light air off of Belmont Pier. While Friday saw a late start due to fog, it was also the best day for wind, with a 10-12 knots breeze. Saturday and Sunday were lighter, staying below 10 knots.
