Eight Bells: Richard Barkow

Richard “Dick” Carl Barkow, age 85, died on July 29, 2023.

Born in Milwaukee, WI, he graduated from Valparaiso University (1960) and served in the US Army Reserves. Richard was united in marriage to Leslie Anderson on October 5, 1973 and followed his dad’s footsteps by becoming President of Barkow Manufacturing.

Dick loved sailing, horses, and gardening all of which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Commodore of the Pine Lake Yacht Club 1990-91 (Hartland, WI). He was a Life member of the Inland Lake Yachting Association and Bilge Puller #390. He was co-founder of TRAP & No Tears regattas. He bought a farm in 1968 which led to many family horseback riding trips.

Richard is survived by his wife Leslie; five children – Carl Richard (Kimberly), James Richard (Holly), August Richard (Susie), Sally Leslie (Francesca), and Emlie Leslie (Chad) Barkow Veinot; eleven grandchildren – Charles, Ashley and Blake; Jackson and Cole; William, Molly and Peter; Harriet; Abigail and Foster Veinot; further survived by brother Robert (Sandy); also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends and neighbors.

Funeral Services for Richard will be held at Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church on August 3 at 12 Noon. Visitation for family and friends from 10 AM until time of service. Committal to follow services at Gardens of Stone Bank.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church or University Lake School, Hartland.
